Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Who needs calculators? We are mathematicians at work! We want to secure our school store to become better at adding money, making change, doing mental Math all while building our school community.
My at-risk students come to school for salvation.
They live in a high poverty, high crime area. Our school is making its way back up the ladder to being sought after following many years of being less than desirable. We are creating hope and showing them what their future can hold if they work hard at it. Creating a school store will strengthen the life skills they will need long after they leave us.
My Project
The cart we have asked for will help our school develop organizational skills, inventory skills, ordering skills, money skills and most importantly for our students, interpersonal skills. The cart closes and locks so we can ensure that materials stay inside. We are trying to do this on a table top right now and unfortunately, items are being lost because they need to be moved daily for safety's sake. The locked cart would solve this.
We involve all level of learners to run the store and especially our English language learners and special education students.
Our students have a lot of street skills.
We want to instill hard work and being nice to people as the way to get ahead in this world. The children at this school are amazing. In my 20+ years of teaching I have never felt as needed as I do here. Going to work is exhausting, but I love every minute of it. Please help me help them become great people!
