Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Did you know that fewer than one in four students feel that they know enough about personal finances? A Federal Reserve study found that in states where financial literacy training is mandated, students save more and accumulate more wealth than other adults. That is a life changing advantage!
My students are amazing fifth graders, who deserve the very best!
They are fun, energetic and creative, and I love to showcase their spectacular talents. The school where I teach is considered "high poverty," so students do not have the same opportunities as those in other neighborhoods. Everyone qualifies for free lunch in the Title 1 program. Our neighborhood is not very diverse in race and background, so my students have difficulty understanding those that are different than they are. I fear this lack of access to the world will limit their future success.
My Project
My students need a plethora of supplies for financial awareness, including an iPod with speaker, a camcorder with accessories, paper money, and presentation boards for a money inquiry. I propose an ambitious project using technology and traditional tools. There are many money "apps" and "podcasts" that my students can use independently in an iPod with a speaker learning center to help them learn how to identify, save, and use money. The applications creatively educate children about money in a fun way. Many of my students may be reluctant to work on paper but are thrilled to use technology. As a next step, and to vary the modalities of learning,
I want my students to use the presentation boards to present an analysis of how financial literacy applies to children. From the lunch line, to the toy store, where is money important to kids? The camera, along with its accessories, will make it easy to shoot real life transactions and financial situations to add as photographs to the presentations. The paper money will take financial literacy from abstract to a concrete topic. As they say, "money makes the world go round." This project is multifaceted and exciting!
This project is so important to me because I love seeing my students so enthusiastic to learn with technology.
Your donation will make it possible for all my students to explore the wonderful world of money and finances. Thank you for contributing to the achievement of my 5th grade students. This will be an unforgettable learning experience for us all. Creditreport.com please help!
