This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Wouldn't it be cool to see your graph form as you are collecting data? With the LabQuest2 interfaces we are requesting, my 8th grade students will be able to do just that!
Our students are taught through active learning and the process of inquiry.
Since collecting quality data is the key to scientific investigation, getting real lab equipment into their hands can vastly improve their learning experience and their outcomes in the areas of science, math and technology.
My students are 8th graders who learn by discovery, love hands-on learning and lab activities, and enjoy working in collaborative groups. They are very interested in the world around them and ask so many great questions every day. They attend our K-8 Charter school in California, where they study hard and participate in loads of extracurricular activities, including many, many sports.
My Project
This project will give the students the opportunity to use real scientific equipment to collect data about things the love to do. We will use the LabQuest interface, motion detector and force sensor to collect data from the sports the kids play.
The students will see real time graphs of the motion of a baseball being hit, a soccer ball going through the goal, a volleyball being played, etc. These activities will connect real data, the students' interest in sports, and the California Physical Science Standards in a meaningful way. At the same time they will be using technology, scientific equipment, and mathematics to help them understand the world around them.
This projects supports our STEM goals and engages the students in a meaningful way.
We will be able to use this technology for many years to come and it would support the learning of all of my students.
