Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently teaching a Self-Contained English as a Second Language Kindergarten. All my students are newcomers to the United States and they are all learning English. My school is located in a high-need community. Therefore, affording science supplies is not affordable for my students' parents.
My students are very motivated to learn and explore science, but affording all the scientific tools we need in not affordable. I am starting to collect everyday objects from home, but we don't have any tools that will help us explore our scientific objects. I want to develop my students' abilities to observe like scientists do. But without the essential tools like magnifying glasses and safety goggles, it is near impossible to accomplish my task. Right now my students are starting to observe without any of the needed tools and they are still interested in learning science.
If my students receive the supplies needed to explore science, they will develop their scientific minds. They also will have the opportunity to create a green house in the classroom and to develop their scientific curiosity about plant growing. Imagine if my students receive all the science tools such as a new science center to explore magnets, how fantastic that will be to keep them involved in science. All the tools needed in my classroom will help my students start to use high order thinking by observing, discovering and experimenting. Besides that, my students will write, read and practice mathematics during science. Science is the best subject to put my students to think like scientists, write like scientists, read like scientists, and become mathematicians like scientists. All the subjects such as math, reading, writing, art, and social studies can be tied with science.
Donors, your support to this project is essential and very important for my students to accomplish their goal to become young scientists.
