Real Recorders for Virtual Learners

My Students

I am teaching general music to K-6 grade students in a completely virtual format, by choice! My school is the first of it's kind in my district, offering full-time, online schooling to all families who are choosing this format for various reasons. The demographic is definitely a mix of many cultures and backgrounds. especially Latinex, Mexican and Hispanic, but I have several students with African and Arabic background as well.

The students who are choosing to attend virtual learning are eager to share what they know.

Last year, COVID happened, and students had no choice but to attend school from their homes. As teachers, we learned to adapt and learn quickly, and we found ways to bring music to their homes. Now that these students are in virtual learning by choice, they are eager to share and show what amazing people they are, and they love music. When I mention found sound, they quickly look for something in their homes they can use to create a musical sound. When I mention creating music, several students immediately spring into action. In conclusion, these students show me they are hungry for meaningful musical experiences.

My Project

My students are all learning virtually from home. I am hoping to provide each 4th-6th grade student in the Mesa Virtual Campus a recorder. Without this resource, they will not be able to learn how to play recorder. In a regular school, recorders are available and are a standard part of the curriculum for all 3rd, 4th-6th grade students.

Recorders for my students would mean a lot to them because they would have the same opportunity as their fellow students in the district and will not feel that they are being left out.

The product I chose is affordable and a solid instrument that has been used successfully by many music teachers.
