Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a life skills class with 8 boys and 1 girl. My students are unique learners. I have 2 student who have Down Syndrome, 5 students who have Autism and 2 who are developmentally delayed. They are all unique in their own way. Four of my students are verbal and the other five are nonverbal. I have three students who are in kindergarten, two in 1st grade, two in 2nd grade and two in 3rd grade. It is hard for them to express their wants and needs, as students with disabilities struggle with academics and motor skills.
My students need help because they are unable to communicate their wants and needs.
Our school is a Title I school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. 50% of my students come from single-parent homes.
My Project
My students are students with special needs who need lots of extra help. I want to teach my students how to prepare simple things that they can eat. We need a microwave, toaster, griddle and more. They don't always like eating the food that is served in the cafeteria. Students who have Autism don't like to try different things. I would like to have things to cook in when my students are hungry and cafeteria food is not appealing to them. I also want to be able to teach them how to clean up after themselves. The clorox wipes will be used to clean tables and chairs as they learn to clean up.
