We are the 5th grade Chinese immersion class. My students have learned Chinese for 4 years. They enjoyed learning the language and culture. Students are eager to maximize their learning of the language.
During the COVID pandemic time, it's hard for students to engage in the classroom.
My project is to teach students with Chinese hands on cultural activities to increase their learning in Chinese and Chinese cultural.
My students always want to learn more about Chinese cultural, and get excited about what we are learning. My project is to teach students to learn Chinese Yo-Yo and Chinese chess, which is related to the lesson what we are learning about Chinese New year. The project not only provide students hands on activities, but also experience the cultural. However, the limited budget of the program, students cannot get enough support for learning the language. My students enjoy learning and push themselves above and beyond. And while students are longing for learning in the Chinese language, I would like to provide the support they need all the time.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students are important for students to learn about the culture, it also increases students interests in learning cultural diversity. Chinese Yoyo and Chinese chess are two traditional games in Chinese culture for a long time. During Chinese family activities, Chinese yoyo and Chinese chess are prime games in ancient Chinese culture. Chinese Yoyo is not only a game, it's a sport too. Even in right now China or Taiwan's elementary has highly promoted it for extra curriculum for students. Chinese chess will stimulate students independent thinking patterns.
The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of authentic Chinese culture and activities.
By teaching my students the culture which will be related to their real life experiences and help them appreciate different culture and to have fun during the pandemic time. When I was teaching in Taiwan, I was in the school Yoyo promotion team to promote the cultural appreciation festival. I truly need the support to help my Chinese dual language immersion students have the opportunities to experience the cultural activities. Thank you so much!
