My Students
I am a Second Grade teacher at a year round, extended day charter school in an urban environment. My twenty six second grade students are excited, energetic, and eager to learn, despite the challenges in their daily lives! Our student population is 99% African American, and 95% come from low income homes. As a school, we work diligently to provide the students with a wide variety of experiences that they would not usually encounter. We seek to provide students with opportunities to become not only successful students, but lifelong learners who are globally competitive and strive for absolute excellence.
My Project
My students are full of curiosity, enthusiasm, and a love of learning! Nothing excites them more than getting to touch, see, and build their way to understanding. All students should have access to an equitable schooling experience. I will do everything in my power to ensure that my students are provided with every opportunity for success.
With this project, I am hoping to provide my students with real books they can touch and provide easily accessible stories for my diverse learners.
I also want to provide books that that will give my students a much-needed opportunity to see themselves in stories.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
