This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are full of hope and thrive on hands-on activities that engage their senses and challenges them to think creatively to find solutions. Every child has talents, strengths and is capable of success. Sometimes, all it takes is exposure to engage and motivate students to continually make an effort to improve and achieve academic gains.
Many students in my classroom have limited access to educational resources at home.
Our school is located in Bushwick, Brooklyn and receives Title I funds. Families are facing even greater struggles in the midst of the current pandemic to sustain employment and opportunity.
Each child in my classroom wants to learn, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. My students have special needs including learning disabilities and speech and language impairments. Effectively engaging these students during remote learning will require new heights of engagement and variety of learning strategies to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am thankful to have a new group of students that are ready to ignite their learning.
My Project
Learning from home has been a challenging endeavor, especially so for students with special needs. The materials and resources requested will accomplish some important goals. They will allow me to set up a remote classroom that closely resembles the typical classroom experience that my students are familiar with and currently longing for. The calendar and pocket charts will allow us to continue essential classroom routines as well as display daily schedules and key information and vocabulary. The use of whiteboards is a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Students use whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. Providing students with their own kit including a whiteboard, markers and eraser will provide a familiar and easy place for them to show and share their work.
Technoloy is an important tool in improving student engagement and should be used to increase access to learning opportunities for all students.
The green screen will be utilized to provide students with visually engaging and interactive learning experiences. Students can be transported instantly, limited only by their imaginations! This technology enhances all subject areas, particularly the sciences and social studies. Providing students with their own stylus will help them work more effectively with their devices and display their written work.
By donating to our project, you will help to improve student attention and motivation, and ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Use of interactive math manipulatives (spinners, fraction pies, place value chart) will help capture and sustain student focus and increase time on task. The cart will be used to organize and display manipulatives and materials for easy access and use.
In this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology and engaging activities will not only build their desire to learn and motivation, but also increase collaboration and critical thinking.
