Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first graders have a thirst for learning. Our school is in a low-income, urban neighborhood in Chicago. Ninety-eight percent of our students are native Spanish speakers.

My students are highly motivated, eager to learn, and LOVE to read!

Our classroom is a new first-grade classroom this year. The classroom library was set up with extra books found around the school. The classroom library is lacking great mentor texts that could be used to teach my students the necessary skills they will need to become efficient readers. When my students want to read a book, they don't have very many to choose from.

These books will be used for read-alouds in our literacy block and also for independent reading. They are engaging and fun and will help my students to become better readers.
