This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Huntington Park, California.
My classroom supports students with moderate to severe autism and I currently have ten students.
Many of my students are also English language learners and most are non-verbal communicators.
The individual needs of my students vary greatly so it is important to have materials and activities that engage them all. They learn best through the use of pictures, manipulatives, and kinesthetic activities. My students enjoy hands-on materials and are eager to explore new objects.
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help me make language arts and reading fun and interactive. I plan to use the books and puppets to present during online lessons. I am certain that these familiar stories will get the student’s attention which will be great for story time, reading comprehension, vocabulary building, and so many more activities. When we are able to return to our classrooms I will use the puppets to have my students join in on the read aloud activity by giving them the opportunity to use the puppets.
