My students are special because they are incredibly kind and thoughtful. It is normal for kids at this age to be more focused on themselves and their own needs. My students go out of their way to help their friends and share with them. I have been teaching for 13 years and this year I have been surprised by the empathy and kindness that my class has demonstrated.
I want to give them the best, my best.
When I ask them to do their best work, I see an increase in their effort. It makes me want to do more for them. Many of my students didn't attend a preschool so it is important that they learn foundational skills quickly.
The families are very supportive and go out of their way to thank me for anything that I do.
My Project
The greatest thing a teacher can do is create a child who loves to read. Reading should be educational but also enjoyable and even relaxing.
Kindergarten students are just beginning to read.
It is crucial that they have access to books at their exact reading level and ability. It is so easy for them to become frustrated and dislike reading. We need books of varied levels.
The materials that I have chosen would enable me to have four beginning level books for my students to choose from.
Due to common core standards, the expectations for Kindergarten students is much higher so I need more materials to match that demand.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
