My Students
Help my emergent readers build their confidence and independence with literacy-based, file folder games.
My students are a lively bunch of five and six-year old children.
They are eager to learn. These emergent readers need age appropriate literature in order to become successful, independent readers. Unfortunately, 98% of my students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch, which indicates that those students are also highly impoverished. This is just a glimpse of the socioeconomic status of the entire student body. This disturbing data along with education budget cuts means that my students lack quality resources that are vital to their academic success.
My Project
In my kindergarten classroom, students spend a great deal of their day in learning literacy across the content areas. It is important that my students learn to read in order to meet grade-level benchmarks. To meet these needs, I have ordered file folder games that focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. These games will integrate independent practice into our reading center. My students will build sight vocabulary, have modeled phrasing and fluency, be exposed to a variety of story structures, develop independence, and so on.
Your donation will provide some much needed resources in the areas of Language Arts and Literacy.
With your support, my students will confidence-building experiences in our reading center. Having proper resources in effective learning centers will offer my students purposeful, hands-on learning; promote engaging thinking and problem-solving; allow for decision-making and choice; prompt open-ended responses; allow children to work independently, collaboratively, and successfully.
