Our school is truly a great place to learn! We have a wonderfully diverse population with students coming from all parts of the globe. We put significant emphasis on teaching the whole child through global learning and international awareness. The English learners (or EL) students at our school are especially amazing! They are students for whom English is a second language.
Our EL students have greater challenges due to the fact that English is their second language.
My job as an EL teacher is to provide extra support to make their learning easier and more meaningful. Our students are always eager and ready to learn, work hard, and are very committed to their learning.
My Project
My previous project, Ready to Read! stocked my classroom shelves with the Read Well 2 and Read Well Plus programs. My students are enjoying these books immensely, and are learning to love reading through greater confidence gained by the skills taught through this literacy curriculum.
The additional component, Read Well 1, will provide my beginning readers with foundational reading skills through engaging stories, new vocabulary, decoding strategies, comprehension, and test-taking strategies.
This research-based program is progressive, allowing students to pace through each unit at their individual levels. Standards-based skills are woven throughout each story, providing students with additional grade-level instruction.
With a wide variety of reading levels in each classroom, this program enables me to customize learning for each student during guided reading. Targeted skills can be taught in conjunction with phonics and fluency through a variety of fiction and non-fiction literature. My students and I need your help to bring another amazing resource to our school!
