Help me give my students engaging books, in order to practice reading throughout the day and at home.

My Students
My students are English Language Learners who are eager to learn and explore the world around them. I teach at a Title I school in Brooklyn where all students receive free breakfast, lunch and basic school supplies.
Most of these students live in crowded apartments where they lack personal items, such as books, as well as personal space to work and read.
My hope is to build a classroom environment in which my students come to school each day excited to read. And that they read a variety of challenging and engaging books, in order to build their identities as readers.
My Project
In my classroom, students are encouraged to read throughout the day. All year, they work hard to understand their identities as readers; what books and themes they like or dislike, and why. These are students who may not own a single book, who may not have the opportunity to go to the public library.
My hope is that by providing students with more books to read and engage with, they will further strengthen their reading identities.
I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they enter our room filled with so many brand new books and characters!
