My Students
My students are an amazing group; eager to learn and work hard towards their goals both in and out of the classroom. We come together as a team and work on more than just class content. The students learn how to work together as a team to grow as citizens in their own communities.
Despite their challenges, students in our classes continue to work hard and rise to the occasion.
Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area with all students qualifying for a free breakfast and lunch. A number of students are homeless or residing in group homes.
My Project
Last year, I was able to add more books for students in my classroom to read during independent reading times. Students really enjoyed the books and having more choices in the classroom. Many of our students do not have access to library cards or having reading materials in their homes.
This year, I have a new group of students who really love reading and having time during class to read for enjoyment.
In the first week of school, students have been continuously asking for different books to read in the classroom and also more copies of books I already have.
I am so excited to have a group of students who love reading so much. Although they may have obstacles in their lives, I do not want access to literature to be one of them. These books would be such a meaningful addition to the classroom for my students!
