Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in an urban, low-income neighborhood. Few students have families with an academic background, and most will be first generation college students.

Many of my students have only been in the country for 2 years or less.

They come from several different countries and need a way to see how their perceived differences are not reality. Many may have experienced traumatic events and need help in trying to express their feelings while gaining a sense of community and togetherness.

My Project

I am in the second year of growing my policy debate team. These materials will help my increasing number of debate teams prepare their evidence and files for competition.

Walking into a debate competition with the tools you need to win helps my low income students feel confident while learning this new skill.

Students will have their evidence organized and portable and with them at all times.

Students will then be able to focus on the skills of debate and argumentation and not looking for their evidence in crumbled folders or their backpacks. This will help build team morale and allow my students to not feel intimidated by students with technology.
