Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hear our voices! Our students want to take part in an exciting opportunity to learn about a social issue that is important to our community. The Adobe Youth Voices Poster Project will grant the students the opportunity to explore an issue and create materials to reach the target audience.
Our public school is in an urban environment with 95% low income families and 60% of our students English Language Learners.
Fifth and sixth grade students will be participating in the program. The students are highly motivated and energized by the opportunity to learn using the latest technology.
My Project
Our students will use the digital cameras to participate in the Adobe Youth Voices Poster Campaign. Through this project they will learn skills such as presenting information about social issues, working productively in small groups, and presenting information through photography and Adobe Photoshop Elements. In addition to these learning skills, the students will learn technical skills that are transferrable to other projects such as adding text to an image, cropping and altering images, retouching photos, and elements of graphic design.
The highlight of this project is that our students will learn how to productively address a social issue through communication and technology.
The skills they will acquire will stay with them, and will be used on a multitude of projects in the future. This project truly gives our students an opportunity to use their voice for something meaningful to them.
