Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
COVID-19 had a marked impact in young children. Not only were they kept away from their peer group, adults often talked to them through masks. Children were not able to see mouths speaking. This translated to kindergarten students who have trouble forming sounds in their mouth, or connecting articulatory gestures to speech.
Now that age group is in school, they need further practice producing and identifying speech sounds, which is the basis of reading and writing.
Dry erase surfaces and markers are the tools we use daily to focus on letter sounds. We write what we hear, change sounds, add some, erase them - and do it all over again, every day. The materials in my project get a lot of use, and we need to replenish them frequently.
