Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with students with moderate to severe disabilities; some are non-verbal, some are minimal verbal, many with low cognitive abilities. Together we run a large horticulture program and Farmer’s Market. My students are all unique individuals and I differentiate instruction based on their needs. Most importantly, my students need to expand their communication skills and independence. In preparation for future employment, we practice communicating with supervisors and colleagues. We also practice to work as independently as possible by using checklists.
My Project
While my students are learning from home, they attend live online classes and work on assignments using the tablets lent to them by the school district.
Giving my students with disabilities styluses will make it much easier for them to work on the assignments I post for them online.
By using a stylus, even those students that do not have strong writing skills, will be able to write on or mark up a text, math assignment or other relevant PDF. Using a stylus will make it more like using a pencil than when they have to use their fingers.
