it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine living in NYC but because you go to school in the Bronx, you only have a 70% chance of graduating High School? Now add to this the fact that you came to High School speaking a language other than English- and your chances of graduation get even smaller.
I teach at a high school in the heart of the Bronx helping students who are learning English become college-ready in math and science.
A lot of our students move quickly into learning English--even if they struggle with literacy in their home language. Although they enter our school with little limited English, we join them in their goal of graduating high school in just 4 years. They are hard-working and want to make a better future--for themselves, and our city.
My Project
Every year I try to get my class organized from the first day of school. And this year it will be even more important to have markers, pencils, paper folders, and other supplies students need to start learning from the very first day.
With over half of our High School having limited in-person schooling last year, we will have a lot of students that will need support to get back into the "school groove"- and this project helps them do just that!
Getting the supplies they need to be organized and ready to learn will allow my students to not miss any more learning in the new school year.
