My students need durable Rubbermaid recycling containers for the large number of plastic water bottles and cans on our campus. Students need an identifiable container and location to recycle their plastic and aluminum.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 8th Grade U.S. History in an Arts and Technology based Magnet program. We are housed in a large, urban, Title 1 middle school with a limited budget and aging facilities.
My students are gifted, highly-engaged, critical thinkers who love to create and collaborate with each other.
They are also culturally diverse and from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds.
As a teacher, I am responsible for creating and maintaining a positive classroom environment. My goal with this project is to invest students with the tools they need to help me meet that goal. We want a room where thought and creativity can flourish.
Help us get bottles, cans, and scraps of paper in the right places!
Every bin counts!
My Project
My classroom is small. Yet the average class size upwards of 35 students per class. Students sit at tables of four. At the end of each day, I average between 10-20 plastic water bottles that end up on the floors of the classroom, on the sides of tables, or underneath chairs. 35 students with backpacks, lunch boxes, and personal items scattered throughout the room can create a hazard. Adding more litter to that is a disaster. Having a designated place to discard plastic and aluminum recyclables will help tremendously. Students will recycle given the tools to do so. This Rubbermaid container will be added to a designated recycling area. By providing this container, and a point location for all recycling, students will be able to take charge of their environment and create a clutter free classroom!
