This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students attend this STEM-certified Title I school in grades 1 through 5. We have general education, bilingual, and dual-language (English/Spanish) classes available to them, and are considered a dual language English/Spanish school. The majority of our students (98%) come from economically disadvantaged families; as such, they may not have the opportunities to get their hands on various books, materials, and projects in order to spur their imagination.
Despite the circumstantial challenges placed on the students, they were able to meet and even exceed the state standard on the STAAR testing.
Our students are capable, bright, and the future of this country.
My Project
Our fourth and fifth grade students apply and are inducted into a morning announcements club called News Crew. In this club, they are responsible for all aspects of running the live-streaming morning announcements, including: filming, scripts, camera, sound, and direction. We have been doing live morning announcements for two years as a school with students running the entire show.
All of our school iPads are over 7+ years old and thus do not run the streaming app smoothly.
The sound quality is tinny and low, and the streaming quality is blurry. A new iPad would allow the students to achieve quality streaming for their morning announcements so that every student in the school, and all virtual students, who see these announcements, can see the great work these students do.
