Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many years ago, I taught Transitional Kindergarten until I was displaced and had to leave my materials behind. I am back in TK again and can't wait to get started!

Each week, students take home a pouch of 10 books, including some in Spanish, to have their families read to them each night.

Families initial the title page each day of the week as they read. On the following Friday, the students bring back the pouches and trade them for another.

The flash cards are introduced 2 at a time and the students practice daily at school and at home. There is a corresponding video, color-coded, on their iPads in case they do not have support at home. As students learn new words, they are added to the students' rings. They love to see how their stack grows. While TK is play-based, many students are anxious to start reading right away!

It would be fantastic to have these items before school starts so we can start right away and everything can be prepared and ready to go!
