Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students come from low- income families. Eighty six percent of the student population at Gulf Avenue is eligible for free lunch. My class consists of twenty four polite, intelligent, five year old kindergartners who are eager to learn. My goal is to provide my students with the tools they need to succeed.
My Project
During distance learning, I am reading books that contain sight words and are repetitive. My students need to view sight words as much as possible because they cannot use the word wall we have in the classroom due to distance learning. I display the books I read on my document camera during our Zoom sessions and my students read the book with me (shared reading).
My students will have a variety of books to read that will focus on a particular sight word and will help them know how to spell and read sight words.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
