Help me give my students a variety of new books for our classroom library.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Ames's classroom raised $347
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are bright, energetic, inner-city children that deserve the same educational opportunities as students in suburban districts that surround the Philadelphia experience.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of state funding, our district continues to struggle to provide the bare necessities to the children at greatest risk.
Our children live in an impoverished, crime-ridden neighborhood, known throughout Philadelphia, for drug activity and violence. Our rather large K-4 school has become the center of our children's neighborhood. Our school is a place where the children are safe, loved, and most importantly educated. With the budget crisis we face, our students have been subjected to larger classroom sizes, cuts in personnel, including the school librarian and essential support materials in every core subject.
My Project
Unfortunately, our local public library is located in the heart of our city's opioid crisis and therefore has become a dangerous place for our students to visit. So that, in addition to our school library is closed for the last four years due to the lack of state funding, our classroom libraries are the only place our children have the opportunity to borrow a book to read.
Funding for this project will allow me to add many new and exciting titles to our class library.
These new titles will undoubtedly build excitement in our class as the children delight in the new stories and share insights into characters and plot lines. A love for reading develops by being exposed to a variety of good books. Please consider our project and our quest to become life-long readers.
