Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I teach come from a variety of different economic backgrounds; with 100% of students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in San Diego. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, and Burmese.
Our school is home to students that strive to be confident, respectful, responsible, and healthy thinkers.
I am kindly asking for your support in helping us build our classroom library. We need leveled reading books that are interesting and easily accessible through-out the day.
"We know that books help kids develop basic language skills and profoundly expand their vocabularies- much more than any other media. Books are interactive; They give us new ways to think and new ideas."
These students often show up to school as reluctant readers and I need your help in offering them a wide variety of books that they can read...help me help them fall in love with the joys of reading.
My Project
The materials and books that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door!
The leveled books will add to our growing classroom library.
The chair organizers will help students to easily locate their tools for success; reading journals, pencils, and of course books!
Our classroom library is a place that students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in our library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
