My Students

My students are enthusiastic about learning. They are third graders who live in an urban area and come from low income homes. Many of them do not have books at home or have transportation to get to a public library.

I have created a structure to support my students to explore their understanding of literature.

Yet, we do not have enough book choices for my students to really be able to dive in and understand many types of literature. We are trying to grow our book collection so that my students can check out books from our own classroom library.

My Project

My class is in need of new books for our classroom library. Right now, my classroom library consist of books that have been left over from other teachers and what I have been able to pick up at garage sales. My students need books that they find interesting and engaging.

When students read they enter the world of literature to learn about life and to make sense of their experiences and feelings.

The more books we have in our classroom library give my students more opportunities to find a book that they can connect to. When a student can connect to a book they will develop a deeper understanding and learn more from that book. Everyone can think back to when they were younger and remember that one book they read and fell in love with, that is what I am trying to do with my students.

When a student reads a lot it helps them improve their scores in all other subjects. Today too many kids depend on technology, I want to show my students that a book can entertain them just as much as watching a movie but reading a book will enhance their educational abilities !
