This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is in North Philadelphia. We are a pre-K to 8th grade public elementary school with a large population of English Language Learners.
Our school has about 20 beginning English Language Learners (from Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, China and Yemen) in grades 4-8 who receive support in a small group setting.
We focus on listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. We are hoping to open a Publishing Center with a printer so we can easily display our writing pieces.
My Project
We are developing our writing skills. Having a printer in the classroom will enable us to immediately print and share our stories and other writing pieces. We can also create displays to showcase our writing growth. We will be able to edit and reprint our writing easily if we have a printer. Some of our writing topics this year will include personal narratives, animal research, travel brochures, poetry and historical fiction. We are excited to start brainstorming, writing, revising and printing. Our writing is on display in our writing folders and on hallway bulletin boards, which we plan to change monthly.
