When I was a little girl, we had a closet full of fun board games. We used to play them with family and friends. Only a few of my inner-city students can relate to me. I think all of my students should be able to have the opportunity to own and play these great games!
I teach 5th grade in an inner-city school in New York.
The entire school is on free and reduced lunch. My students do not have the same opportunities that other schools and students may have. That does not mean that my students can't learn the same or deserve the same opportunities.
My Project
As the school year starts to wind down, teachers must find ways to keep their students motivated to learn. We have state tests still coming up, along with the great weather and thoughts of summer break. I would love to use games to motivate my students. All of the games ensure that my students must cooperate and use skills they have learned in class. The best part is that the students will be having so much fun, they'll forget they're learning at the same time!
With your donation, you'll help ensure that my students keep on learning while enjoying the classroom and the school.
My students will be able to review concepts like fractions, money management, problem solving, cooperation, language skills, strategy skills, and team building. My hope is that by playing such games, my students will take the fun home and try these games with their families.
