My Students

Imagine going to class and receiving an assignment, only to realize that you do not have the supplies necessary to complete the assignment. Imagine the frustration, when none of your friends have spare materials to give you, and your teacher is all out of supplies as well!

My students are middle school aged children.

They are raised by both single parent and dual parent households. Since this is a school which focuses on foreign language, most students are self-motivated about their studies. But, they are children. So, at times, they forget the most basic necessities needed to be successful in a learning environment.

My Project

Each fall, students have all the necessary supplies to begin the school year. But as the school year progresses, these supplies run out. Students are aware of this, but not all students are from homes with resources available to replenish these supplies. So, these children quietly rely on their teachers and classmates to help them. Unfortunately, teacher supplies are not always easily replenished. In addition, some classmates grow weary of always lending out supplies. Despite the resulting frustration, these students are ever so eager to be a productive member of class. The materials I am requesting are ink pens, mechanical pencils, and one subject notebooks. These supplies may seem so basic to most. But to those students who don't have them, it means having the foundation to being successful.

My students have great expectations for not only themselves, but for me as well.

It is hard to see students who do not have the basic necessary supplies for school. It is even harder to have to let them know that I have run out of supplies and cannot afford to buy any more. To receive these basic supplies will give students in need the opportunity to at least be on the same starting level as the rest of their classmates.
