My students need 11 items including a dress-up trunk, mailbox, small playhouse with furniture and people, log builders, canopy for the reading corner, dinosaurs, and a puppet stage.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten in California to students who have at least one parent in the military. My students like any other four and five year old children, come to school ready and eager to learn.
My students bring with them their very active imaginations and in a time when academics are the focus we tend to forget that students also learn while engaging in dramatic play.
Take a moment to look back at the time when you were a child, how great was it to pretend you were a doctor, a scientist, a famous movie star, an engineer, an astronaut, a mom, or a teacher? It was fun, wasn't it? While playing you also learned to think critically while compromising with your friends or deciding where to put the next block or log. You also learned to speak in complete sentences while using different intonations or by changing the pitch of your voice depending on the character you were playing. You taught others while pretending to be a teacher. You cured your brother's aches by prescribing medicine. Just like yours, my students' imagination is also a powerful learning tool!
My students need a variety of quality dramatic play resources to help them unleash their imagination. They will benefit from having: the grandma and grandpa dress-up trunks with 27 pieces of dress-up items; a fully furnished dollhouse with a posable family; a mailbox; a set of dishes for the playhouse; a puppet stage for our puppets; log builders; a dinosaur theme box; and a cozy canopy for the reading corner.
You will make it possible for my student to have quality materials to help them learn while using their imagination at its full potential.
