My Project
Being one of three fifth grade teachers at an elementary school and the team lead who is responsible for 30 plus 5th graders; I provide support for any of the students, if there is a need as well. For the upcoming school year, our school administrator and district has been attempting to incorporate the usage of STEAM. With implementing STEAM activities, students will have the opportunity to create different projects. This will give them the ability to think abstractly, and learn the "why behind solving mathematical problems while our schools focus is commerce and entrepreneurship, with students creating and designing different types of hands on projects while using a sublimation printer, computer and other items needed. This type of equipment, hopefully will give them the motivation and vision to start his or her own business.
The majority of the students at my school are from low-income households, foster children and those who are being raised by siblings, great grandparents and uncles and aunts.
Therefore, I am devoting an area of my classroom into a STEAM Center. ALL students including our students with (dis)abilities will be able to use this equipment when properly trained. Each and everyone will be able to create designs and cut projects with the Cricut3 for projects and STEAM challenges as well as many other projects. The students will love the fact that they will be able to see their designs by using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math at the same time making a real-world connection to careers and entrepreneurship which make my students feel more included which creates a positive learning environment that is conducive for learning.
