My Students

Do you know that a person learns more quickly using a hands-on approach? Being a kinesthetic learner myself, I know how hard it is to learn just by reading or listening. I always try to provide my students with opportunities to learn hands-on. These camcorders will offer my students this ability.

My class is a diverse group of students: socioeconomically, academically, and racially.

Although our school is located in a middle class neighborhood, many come from single family homes, do not have parental support at home, have limited access to technology, and 27% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. While most are well behaved and eager to learn, many are shy, lack confidence, and are easily distracted in this digital world of ours. Our technological capability is severely limited in our 30+ year old portable school.

My Project

Encompassing all subjects in elementary school, my students will be performing lessons, skits, puppet shows, readers' theater, and anything else the students' imagination can come up with. By videotaping themselves performing these activities with the camcorders, my students will learn how to express themselves, be cooperative and respectful of others, and will better retain what they learn. For example, using FLIPs my students can videotape their demonstration of how the digestive system works, their math facts raps, newscasts focusing on core standards (What's My Noun?), and historical events. Through this process students will solidify their knowledge, learn how to edit film, and practice life skills. Their video presentation will be uploaded to the classroom computers for students to view and learn from. From reading and writing to math and science, students will be given opportunities to further ingrain their learning with the hands-on FLIP project

The FLIPs will grab the attention of students that have checked out, who learn kinesthetically, or who are gifted but find school tedious.

I need to help them expand their creativity to make the lessons come to life. By taking a linear lesson and using this technology and the students creativity, my students will be able to create 3D projects to showcase their learning.
