In 2018 esports was officially recognized as a high school sport. Our BCHS Bears have had a team since 2019. Over the past couple of years, our team has fluctuated between 10-24 students. Many schools around the state have teams of 50+. We hope our team can reach that size soon.
*Students who participate in esports have an average of an almost 2% increase in GPA and a 10 % increase in attendance.
*There are over $16 million in scholarships offered annually.
*97% of students identify as gamers.
*82% of esports students have never participated in another club on campus.
*Grad rates are 10% higher for students involved at college level.
*97% of esports students will graduate.
*There will be a 300-500% growth in STEM jobs in the next couple years and 75% of esports grads, graduate with STEM degrees.
Currently we do not have equipment in the building that allows us to run practices and matches. We alternate between playing remotely at home or at a local gaming cafe we have to pay hourly for. We are looking for a better, dedicated space at school to call home. Having more equipment will help give us legitimacy by finding a more permanent space to house our own equipment. Also, many potential esports athletes at our school do not have equipment at home either. By having the equipment in the building, we can remove the barrier of cost and privilege for many of our students.
With your help, we can create a home for many students who would not normally participate in traditional school activities. We can get students into a team environment, out of their homes and with other people, learning teamwork, social skills, and exposing them to potential job opportunities in the gaming and tech industry.
