My Project
The academic demands of the elementary classroom have changed a great deal over the years. Our youngest learners now face hours of academic rigor as they work hard to learn to read, write, spell, and solve problems. This cognitive lift can be stressful at times and it is important that we offset this period with opportunities for play and exercise.
Although I provide movement breaks in the classroom, nothing compares to the joy that recess brings to my young learners.
Recess provides my students with a much-needed break that promotes their physical, social and emotional development.
Sadly, we don't always have playground materials or equipment to use during recess. Having balls, jump ropes, frisbees, and sidewalk chalk will allow my students to develop their gross and fine motor skills while enjoying safe and organized play time with their peers. This, in turn, will lead to students who have improved attention spans, fewer behavior problems, and improved academic performance.
There is nothing like the cheerful sights and sounds of an elementary school playground...the smiles, the laughter, the squeals, the cheers. Please consider helping my amazing students by giving them equipment to play with during recess.
