This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are sixth grade elementary students at an inner city school. They are eager to learn, but many face circumstances that can make learning an obstacle. For many, school is the only stable part of their day.
It is my job to guide these students as they break past these hardships and become successful problem solvers who are ready to face real world challenges.
This task is not always easy, and these projects help make the process more enjoyable.
My Project
This year we are beginning a new reading program. It is focused on creating excitement around the subject of reading. Students will experience a whole class read aloud as well as smaller "book clubs" while participating in a heavy amount of discussion.
As a reading teacher, my goal is to foster a love for books in all my students.
These materials will help get our new reading program up and running smoothly. A rug will help create a cozy meeting place for students to hold conversations during read alouds. Clip boards will provide a work surface and post-it notes will mark text based evidence. The pocket charts will neatly display sentence strips that will post sentence and question stems to encourage meaningful conversations between all students. I look forward to the excitement for reading this year will bring!
