This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Huntington Park, California. Many of our students are also English language learners and non-verbal.
My classroom supports students with moderate to severe autism and I currently have seven students.
The individual needs of my students varies greatly so it is important to have materials and activities that engage all of them. They learn best through the use of pictures, manipulatives, and kinesthetic activities. My students enjoy hands-on materials and are eager to explore new objects.
My Project
The books in this project, including "Mouse's First Day of School" and "What Should I Wear Today?", will help my students work on English Language Development and literacy skills. These books will help me extend alternate curriculum topics through read-aloud activities.
Stories we read will be embedded into writing activities, thematic arts and crafts, and other language arts activities.
The books will also become a part of our classroom library. The students will able to enjoy the books we receive during free reading time and preferred activity time. I know that these books will be a big hit with our students and I am excited to see their love of reading grow with our new books.
