My Students
One of the places my students most frequent is our library. Unfortunately, it needs updating. My students absolutely love to read! They are little bookworms and love to read books that take them to new places and teach them about new things. I often hear "just five more minutes please" when I tell them that our independent reading time is over.
Hurricane Michael wrecked our area last year, but we are stronger than ever and ready to gear up for a new year!
Many of my students lost their homes or were displaced. When we came back to school, it created a sense of normalcy again.
I have a very diverse group of students in my classroom, but together we make a family. My students come from different backgrounds, have different beliefs and abilities, but we work together as one class and respect each other. We are a Title I school, where 80% of our students are from low-income families and receive extra support from the school. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunches.
I want my classroom to continue to be a place where my students can learn, grow, and bloom!
My Project
Reading brings new worlds to students! It helps them to travel to new places that they have never been, learn about new concepts they have never experienced, and can open their eyes to new ideas!
In our rural community, many students are not able to travel to new lands and see different ways of life, but books can take them there!
Having these books in my classroom would make a huge difference for my little bookworms. As our fourth grade is departmentalizing this year, these books would reach more than 60 students this year and hundreds for years to come!
