My Students

I am one of three kindergarten teachers within an open classroom in a close-knit Pre K-5 community school. We strive to provide enriching experiences so that each and every child can reach their academic, social, and emotional potential. I am proud to watch my students grow and learn everyday. My students are a bright, inquisitive and active group of children. Their unique personalities keep me smiling every day while challenging me to provide them with my best. My students are excited to explore the world around them and experience new and engaging STEM technology!

Each year, my students come up with a catchy phrase that captures a part of their kindergarten experience.

For example, one year they came up with "Not Good, But Great" in response to always trying to do their best. Last year they kept repeating "Readers are Writers, and Writers are Readers"! I look forward to that moment when I find the phrase that will belong uniquely to each class because they created it.

My Project

This year, more than ever, we are in need of supplies to keep our classrooms productive as our students begin the exciting journey of learning to write. Consumable supplies such as twistable crayons, glue sticks, black flair markers, and chart paper are always in high demand in Kindergarten. Since we teach as a team, these supplies will be used throughout all three classrooms.

Nothing can replace the excitement of learning through hands-on activities.

Stem materials such as the magnetic shapes and the magnetic tracks are always in high demand in the classrooms. These items will be utilized on a regular basis as students learn about their world and solve everyday problems through building and play.

Books are an essential part of the connection from learning at school to learning at home. We can never have enough books in our lending library for students to borrow. The books in this project will be used for that purpose. The magnetic letters and fly swatter word game will be used within the classroom by students to help grow their brains during learning times. The dice and math activities will also be used during learning times to grow their understanding and foundation of numbers.

Having the materials on hand and ready to use allows us to plan more fun and free flowing activities that we can seamlessly integrate throughout our day. For example, as students are learning about shapes in the math, they can use the magnetic shapes to create new projects that they might not have imagined. The dice that we have on hand can be used to help students practice addition equations either independently or with partners or groups. And access to chart paper makes demonstration of lessons easier.
