Reading, Writing, and Fun While we Are At It!

My students need new and exciting activities to help with their English Language Arts skills, including the shake and play, teaching comprehension, and reading and writing activity stations.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Borasky's classroom raised $470

My Students

Each morning after breakfast we begin our Reading Block. During this time we do Shared Reading, Writing, and Guided Reading. During Guided Reading my students are getting bored with the same activities they have doing each week. We need some new activities to help us through the rest of the year.

My school is in a low-income area with a high ESOL population.

I specifically teach 2nd grade with ESOL students who are beginners, Special Ed students who don't know their alphabet, and Regular Ed students reading anywhere from Kindergarten levels to 3rd grade level. All of my students want to learn and have fun doing it, but, are getting bored with the same kind of activities they have been using this year.

My Project

Having new and different activities to help students in various skills not only helps those in need, but also allows them to have "educational fun." The Reading and Writing Activity Stations will build essential language skills in 5 key areas—with fun-filled activity stations that let them work at their own pace! Having a Comprehension Skills Activity Center focuses on specific Common Core reading skills, including identifying cause and effect, main ideas and more. This will also all students to complete these activities on their own and at their own pace. Finally the Shake & Play Skill-Building Boxes explore word families, discover beginning & ending sounds, identify synonyms & antonyms, and more! Children have many activity cards to use and the joy of shaking a box and seeing where the ball lands can be exciting for anyone.

Students will become active participants in their own learning, in a community of learners and my classroom will become more student-driven rather than teacher-driven.

Most importantly, they will have fun in the process. Please help us receive these new activities for our class. I appreciate your time, and hope you can help our future leaders.
