My students need mentor texts at their instructional level to better understand reading skills and strategies.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Brady's classroom raised $291
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My third grade students are bright, motivated, and one-of-a-kind individuals. They put a smile on my face each and every day, and they all enjoy coming to school and succeeding in the classroom. I feel so blessed to be their special education teacher, and I am lucky to work in such a rewarding field.
Ninety-five percent of our school is considered low-income and receives free or reduced-price lunch.
The student body consists of sixty-five percent Latino, thirty percent African-American, and five percent Caucasian. Even though it has become extremely difficult and sometimes frustrating to educate without needed supplies, our students still come to school eager to learn.
DonorsChoose.org is an amazing organization that supports and enhances the learning experiences of the students at my school each and every year.
My Project
My students love listening to a great story, and through a text I am able to involve them and teach them key reading strategies they can apply when reading on their own or when writing about reading. We are in desperate need of new and engaging reading material to use as read aloud books as well as mentor texts for teaching reading strategies. Mentor texts are pieces of literature that are used to help students improve their own reading and writing. I will be able to use this literature during our read aloud time to teach a specific reading skill.
Each text can be used as great examples to focus on specific skills such as compare and contrast, making predictions, making inferences, and identifying cause and effect relationships.
The students can imitate the mentor text and continue to find new ways to grow. I will also make these books available to the students by placing them in our classroom library once we have finished using them as a read aloud and/or mentor text.
Your donation of these wonderful books will greatly improve the quality of our daily read aloud sessions by making it more engaging and interesting to our wonderful readers. You will help to instill the love for reading in a child, and that is one of the greatest gifts you can give a young learner. By using the books as mentor texts, you will also be enhancing the writing skills of the students. Please know that by donating you are making a positive impact on the education of many children.
