My students need Pete the Cat Hot Dots, books and games to make reading fun.

My Students
My students are happy five and six year old children from central Florida. Our class theme and mascot for the school year is Pete The Cat.
We are a Title I school.
We have about 89 percent of our students that receive free or reduced rate lunch. Many come from economically disadvantaged families with one parent homes or raised by other family members. Many of our students do not have time or are not allowed to play outdoors after school. The television or video games is normal play for them.
My Project
Children love reading with Pete the Cat. The students will be using the Hot Dots electronic pen made to look like Pete the Cat and books in literacy centers to practice reading skills they have learned in class. The books that I have requested will expand my Pete the Cat library. Some of the books will be used in the library center where the students read on their own. I will also use the books for whole group instruction with messages for reinforcing good social skills, holiday stories, and phonemic awareness skills.
Pete the Cat will go home with a child to encourage reading at home.
Our school has a take home reading program and I will use the Pete the Cat bag to send home books and Pete for a home visit. A journal will be kept by the students to tell what Pete did on his visit to their home.
