My Students
As a teacher in Southeast, Washington, DC, my students face several challenges outside of the classroom, including excessive violence in the community. However, when you walk into my classroom, you see students taking on leadership and working collaboratively.
My students are full of energy, eager to learn, and show solidarity towards each other daily.
My students are driven by purpose and challenges; they are motivated to write their worlds. My students are a part of a the 9the grade academy and are eager to become college and career ready. My students have great ambition and very specific goals for the future.
My Project
My classroom is set up in station rotation in order for all students to be able to access content. Each day students work in small group settings to cover rigorous content. Some stations are teacher led, other stations are independent or student led.
My students engage with content extremely well independently, however providing my students with flexible seating at the independent station to create a reading nook will allow my students to excel even more in their reading and writing.
As 9th graders, my students must develop stamina in their reading and writing. My students need to able to read and write independently for extended periods of time in order to be college and career ready. My students work extremely hard at their learning stations and rotate daily. Creating a reading nook in the classroom will support students even more with their reading and writing goals.
