My Project
We have a period of silent reading each week on Thursday and I like to have a small library of books that the kids can read in the classroom when they forget to bring their own.
Many of my students are already great fiction readers, but I'd like them to work on nonfiction reading, specifically focusing on reading for information.
The books on this list are from the DK Publishing group, which means that they are factual and engaging for kids. The kids can pick these books up and read a few pages, while having their learning reinforced with visual details that keep them engaged. It helps them learn how to read charts, graphics, illustrations and text, all in one engaging book.
These books will stay in my classroom for the students to pick up and read at any point in time, unlike a fiction book, these books can be read a few pages at a time and out of order. Exactly what middle schoolers need as they work on developing sustained reading skills!
