My Students
Our school is located in the inner city on the Southwestern side of Richmond. Serving students in grades 6 – 8, the student/teacher ratio is roughly 15 to 1. There are over 700 students at the school, with a large portion of students who come from bilingual households. Each year, a small portion of students start the school year unable to speak or understand the English language.
Students are mostly from low to moderately low-income homes, making 98% of students eligible for free lunch.
Our students are also compassionate, caring, and respectful learners. They love music and love having opportunities to play and perform for their families and community. Our students come to school and class ready to give their all to their learning in spite of the challenges in which they may face, i.e., lack of proper equipment. We want our students to experience goodness in education. We want them to know they are worth the investments of today in hopes of a brighter future tomorrow.
My Project
Being able to go back into the classroom is exciting, but at the same time everyone wants to make sure we are able to stay there. With these items we will be able to keep our hands clean and stave-off illness.
We will keep our hands clean and use the books as inspiration to create songs and music around the theme of the books.
The microphone will be used so students can better understand instructions being given to them clearly. Students will have clean hands while playing instruments or reading books.
