These reader pens will assist students during daily instruction to become more independent with their reading needs. My students have reading disabilities and many require all materials to be read aloud to them. As you may have thought, this can be demeaning and embarrassing at times. This assistive tech tool will allow students to be more independent in their daily learning and be exposed to hearing words read correctly on their own, rather than reading it incorrectly. Hearing the word/words read correctly to them providing exposure to seeing and hearing the word read to them by utilizing this pen during instruction will assist in the carryover of them independently reading the words on their own during assessments.
Students having the option to utilize this tool will increase their confidence in their reading ability, as well as their self-image.
Providing students with effective support will ensure that students create a positive image of a task that may be difficult for them without having to be singled out in a classroom full of their peers. Utilizing this tool can be as simple as taking out a calculator during a math class if you exhibit difficulties in math calculations.
