Reading with a Twist

My students need books to create their own stories. They need markers and crayons to illustrate. They also need reading games to increase reading skills.

My Students

My students love to read. They are enthusiastic about books and want to learn. However, many of them do not know how to read and some are just embarrassed. I want them to become better readers and recreate their own story. They are so creative and we want them to show their creativity.

My school is in the inner city and most of my students are not on grade level in regards to reading.

We have 80% African American, 11% Hispanic, and 9% other. We have very little parental involvement which leads to lack of parental support. However, the students are eager to learn. They love books and have a passion for reading.

My Project

With the requested resources our students will be able to create their own book. It gives them the opportunity to become an author and use their creativity. These resources will also serve as additional items to help those struggling readers. With the hands on resources it will make reading more fun and interactive. These resources will not only strengthen weak readers, it will also build their confidence in their ability to read.

These donations to this project will improve my classroom because the students will be able to do more hands on projects.

The students will be able to enjoy reading and have fun while doing so. I think this will change the mindset of my students into knowing that they can become better readers and will have support to make it happen.
