Reading While Snacking

Help me give my students snacks and books for a reading circle, targeting our Chuukese population.

My Project

We have a growing population of (Micronesian) Chuukese students and there tends not to be a lot of representative literature. I was thrilled to see some Chuukese books available!

These books can help to encourage our Chuukese students to read, and some snacks to munch on while reading will certainly help!

Some of the snack items (Cheez-It, Slim Jim, veggie straws, fruit snacks, multigrain chips) can be used as rewards, but the mints in particular are helpful for helping students focus while reading, testing, or doing homework and classwork. The snacks have been chosen to be a little bit healthier than some of the typical options that we normally have.

With more positive experiences as well as representation of their culture at the school, we hope these items can help with motivating this particular group of students to attend school and try their best!
