Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic and curious about the world. They come to school eager, ready to learn, and meet challenges head-on. Their growth mindset and enthusiasm for learning is contagious, as they inspire me to challenge them and empower them with the skills they need to prepare them for the multi-cultural 21st century. They live in a low-income neighborhood, with a high Hispanic population, and to most, English is their second language. One hundred percent of them qualify for free lunch.

My Project

Having these books in our class will allow us to participate in the Global Read Aloud this year. I will read aloud these stories for a six week period, as will teachers all over the world. Each week my students will join discussions and learn about places and people that reflect them. The books selected for this Read Aloud are by the author Duncan Tonatiuh.

These books have characters that my students can relate too.

They will listen to and read these books that honor their culture and will learn about contemporary issues that affect people of Mexican origin on both sides of the border.

I believe my students will benefit from reading these stories and participating in the interactions with other students, as we participate in Global Read Aloud. Thank you in advance for helping us unite with others through literacy.
